There are a wide variety of programs designed to assist local businesses as they hire new employees and expand operations. Below are just a few of the programs available to businesses in Central Kentucky.
Work Opportunity Tax Credithttp://oet.ky.gov/des/employers/taxcredit.asp – offered through the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. This program provides Federal tax credits to encourage employers to hire job seekers with barriers to employment from eight targeted groups. Those eligible for the WOTC program include certain welfare, food stamp, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients; people with disabilities; veterans; ex-felons, and young people who live in federally-designated empowerment zones, enterprise communities and renewal communities. Welfare-to-Work Tax Credithttp://oet.ky.gov/des/employers/taxcredit.asp - The Welfare-to-Work (WtW) Tax Credit is a tax credit for employers who hire individuals certified by OET as long-term recipients of cash welfare assistance, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).
Unemployment Tax Credithttp://oet.ky.gov/des/employers/taxcredit.asp - The Unemployment Tax Credit (UTC) program provides employers a credit of $100 per eligible hire against Kentucky income taxes owed for hiring residents who have been unemployed for 60 days and remain on the payroll for at least 180 days.
Enterprise Zonehttp://www.oet.ky.gov/des/employer/other_employer_services.asp#Enterprise%20Zone - The Enterprise Zone program provides a substantial tax credit to businesses that locate or expand their operations in areas designated as state Enterprise Zones. To receive the tax credits, the employer must hire a percentage of new employees from certain groups of job seekers
Alien Labor Certificationhttp://www.oet.ky.gov/des/employer/empservices.asp – Information on employing alien workers.
Rapid Response Serviceshttp://dtr.ky.gov/rapidresponse.html - An early intervention service offered to businesses and workers affected by layoffs and plant closings, offered at no cost to the business or the participating employees.
