Medical Career and Science Institute Health Career Camp

The Bluegrass Healthcare Consortium will host a one-week health careers non-residential camp on June 11th-15th at Spencerian College that will provide students an opportunity to jump start their career in the health field.  MCSI is designed for Bluegrass area middle school students who are seriously interested in pursuing a career in a health profession. MCSI provides an opportunity to learn about the variety of careers in health professions and to learn some of the educational requirements leading to those careers.

The camp will expose students to health professions and get them on track for relevant coursework as they prepare for high school. During camp, students will participate in a structured educational curriculum that includes lectures and labs in algebra, anatomy/physiology, trigonometry, and chemistry. Students will have the opportunity to interact with various area practicing healthcare professionals. During these sessions, healthcare professionals will discuss their professions and highlight educational requirements.   The focus of clinical activities will be to provide the student with hands-on experience, as well as observe health professionals in a clinical setting. A couple of camp highlights will include trips to the ‘Sullivan School of Pharmacy’ and the ‘Minimally Invasive Surgery Lab/Outreach Science Center at the University of Kentucky.’
